VOLUME
The V&A and PlayStation present Volume
Created by United Visual Artists and one point six
A luminous interactive installation has transformed the V&A's John Madejski Garden this winter.
Volume is a sculpture of light and sound - an array of light columns positioned dramatically in the centre of the garden.
Volume responds spectacularly to human movement, creating a series of audio-visual experiences. Step inside and see your actions at play with the energy fields throughout the space, triggering a brilliant display of light and sound.
The piece is a collaboration between design collective United Visual Artists (UVA) and Robert Del Naja (aka 3D) of Massive Attack and his long-term co-writer Neil Davidge (as part of their music production company, one point six).
To celebrate the launch of Volume, PlayStation are offering you the chance to win a ceramic white PlayStation Portable®. Visit the competition page to enter.
Wheelchair Access - Please seek staff assistance.
Massive Attack are currently in studios and have completed seven tracks for their fifth album 'Weather Underground', which is due for release in 2008.
3D and Neil Davidge have been deviding Dividing their time between Bristol and New York where they have been recording with Dave Sitek and TV On The Radio. Meanwhile Daddy G has been working with Robot Club.
The group performed a series of live dates and festivals throughout the summer and autumn of 2006.
Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall has revealed some of the band's latest collaborators for their new studio album - among them David Bowie and Patti Smith. With the usual suspects - Cocteau Twins' Liz Frazer and Horace Andy - on board, the band have hinted that, while Smith is confirmed, Bowie and Faith No More's Mike Patton are definite maybes.
"We just spoke with her management today," Marshall revealed to the Tacoma News Tribute on Friday (April 28). "We're just literally trying to get a package of stuff together for her now."
"We're kind of fortunate as Massive Attack in that most people who we've actually asked to help us with the albums have always turned around and said yes," Marshall added, revealing that TV on the Radio's multi-instrumentalist/producer David Andrew Sitek will also contribute to set, scheduled for a 2007 release.
